In Her Image
When a young painter is pressured to capture his domineering mother on canvas, the act of creation becomes a psychological struggle for control, identity, and independence.
Synopsis
In Her Image follows a gifted young painter whose talent is shaped and constrained by the looming presence of his domineering mother. Pressured to immortalise her through his work, he finds himself trapped between admiration and resentment, devotion and self erasure. As the portrait takes form, the act of painting becomes increasingly fraught, transforming the canvas into a space where control, expectation, and identity collide. Isolated within his creative process, the painter’s inner world begins to fracture, blurring the boundary between artistic expression and emotional survival. The closer he comes to completing the work, the more the portrait reflects not only his subject, but the cost of a relationship built on dominance and obligation. Tense and psychologically charged, In Her Image explores the struggle to claim authorship over one’s own life, and the painful consequences of confronting a legacy that refuses to loosen its grip.
